Why do you do what you do?

In the classes I am currently teaching we dicussed motivation today.  This discussion brought up many interesting conversations regarding why people do what they do.  So, why do you make your choices regarding health and fitness?  Do you exercise regularly?  If not, why not?  If so, what motivates you?  Hmm,,, deep thought right?

Let's take a minute and contemplate what is driving your motivation to be healthy, stay fit, eat right, or ... NOT.   This is a time of year when many people find motivation that somehow gets them back into the gym, or maybe they invest in a gym membership for the first time!  Great steps in leading a healthy lifestyle.  I applaud you if you are one of these newly motivated people.

However, I have a question for you.  How long will that motivation last?  Will you stick with it?  Is this really a priority?  As a personal trainer I have seen many people find motivation in things that may not keep this awesome lifestyle change a priority. As soon as something else comes along, the car breaks down, you get sick, work changes your schedule... things fall apart. So why does that happen?

The answer boils down to why you are making your choices relative to your health and fitness.  The key lies in WHY!  Are your reasons strong enough to keep this a part of your life?  Do you believe you will do it?
You see; the outcome of whether or not you will continue to make this a priority, lies in the belief that you will do so.   In our decision making process beliefs drive our thoughts, our thoughts determine our feelings and our feelings drive our actions or daily choices.

If you're struggling with motivation, you're inconsistent in your program our food choices.. maybe you just do not believe it will work!  If you lack confidence in your plan, you will not follow through!   Get help if you need it, get a professional to give you a solid plan and then believe in it and execute it.  Throw out the excuses and make it happen... BELIEVE!
